Easy No Binding Quilt Coasters

These coasters only take minutes to make.  Materials needed:

  • One charm pack (42 pieces of 5" square fabric).   One charm pack will make seven coasters.
  • Batting (I use fusible but any batting will do).
  • Thread.

1.  Select six pieces of 5" square fabric.  One will be the bottom of the coaster, four will be visible on top, and one will be on the inside inside and not show (so use your least favorite fabric for that piece).

2.  Lay piece (1) face down.  That is the piece that will not show once the coaster is done.

3.  Lay a piece of batting on top of the first piece

4.  Lay piece (2) down, face up.  This will be the bottom of the finished coaster.

5.  Take the remaining pieces to the ironing board and press then into triangles.

6.  Place piece (3) down over the fabric and batting square, with raw edges along the edges.

7.  Next place piece (4)

8.  Then place piece (5)

9. Then place (6)

10.  Now fold back the corners of pieces (3) and (6).   Fold piece (6) down flat, and then fold piece (3) over it.

11.  Pin and take the pieces to the sewing machine, and sew a 3/8" seam all the way around.  Don't leave an opening.  Trim the corners.

12.  Reach inside the top pieces and turn the item inside out.  Piece (2) now becomes the bottom piece, and piece (1) is hidden inside.

13.  Use a point turner to make the edges and corners as sharp as possible, then press.

Optional:  If desired, sew 3/8" all around the finished coaster.  The top stitching helps the coaster to stay flat and keep its shape better when washed.
